This chapter is intended to guide readers in the comprehension of experimental economics mechanisms, and their underlying rationale, so the experimenter will be aware of how to choose, and effectively apply, the most appropriate method for her or his specific research objective. In particular, we focus on two of the most frequently applied incentive-compatible value elicitation mechanisms: nonhypothetical experimental auctions and multiple price list experiments.

Abstract

This chapter is intended to guide readers in the comprehension of experimental economics mechanisms, and their underlying rationale, so the experimenter will be aware of how to choose, and effectively apply, the most appropriate method for her or his specific research objective. In particular, we focus on two of the most frequently applied incentive-compatible value elicitation mechanisms: nonhypothetical experimental auctions and multiple price list experiments.
