The MelAnnurca is one of the apple varieties most appreciated by consumers and lovers of fruit to the point of defining it as the Queen of apples. This famous Campania fruit has been cultivated for several millennia, but in 2006 it became part of the products recognized by the IGP mark (Protected Geographical Indication). The “Melannurca Campana” I.G.P. it represents about 80% of the production of apples from Campania and about 5% of the national production, for a total value estimated at over 40 million euros. Recent studies have shown that the Annurca is rich in polyphenols, substances capable of giving it a high antioxidant and/or anti-proliferative power, so it could play a decisive role in the prevention of various diseases, especially those associated with the production of free radicals.
