Digital Transformation of the Public Sector: Integrating People, Processes, and Models in a Holistic and Multidimensional Approach

In this chapter, we describe the key contents and methodological approach of the PRIN PNRR 2022 research project, setting the theoretical and methodological basis of the following chapters of this book. In more detail, we first set out the aim and scope of the volume and the associated research project, clarifying the objectives that guided our inquiry and the expected contributions to theory, practice, and policy. Also, we show the theoretical background underpinning our approach, positioning digital transformation, agile/smart working, and hybrid competences within contemporary management and organization studies. Next, we present the research design, outlining the mixed-method strategy and instruments employed. Finally, we briefly, introduce the book chapters, their methods, and the implications that cumulatively converge in the concluding implications and suggestions.
