The present case study illustrates the methodology for designing the insulation layer for an industrial pasteurizer unit employed in the food processing industry. A joint thermal and financial approach is considered; namely, thickness of insulation which guarantees a Payback Period of 1year is found. Thus, the energy saving is determined by estimating the heat exchange from the pasteurizer with and without the insulation layer. Thus, the corresponding saving in energy cost is estimated and compared with the investment cost of the insulation. The thickness of insulation which guarantees a Payback Period of 1year is the target value. Based on the obtained results, considerations related to energy, financial and safety aspects are proposed.

Abstract
The present case study illustrates the methodology for designing the insulation layer for an industrial pasteurizer unit employed in the food processing industry. A joint thermal and financial approach is considered; namely, thickness of insulation which guarantees a Payback Period of 1year is found. Thus, the energy saving is determined by estimating the heat exchange from the pasteurizer with and without the insulation layer. Thus, the corresponding saving in energy cost is estimated and compared with the investment cost of the insulation. The thickness of insulation which guarantees a Payback Period of 1year is the target value. Based on the obtained results, considerations related to energy, financial and safety aspects are proposed.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
