Starting from a brief historical reconstruction of the 1633 Lancashire witch-trials, this article aims at investigating how the numerous spectacular facets of this sensational case contributed to the plot of a popular theatrical work, adapted for the King's Men at the Globe Theatre in the summer of 1634, at the very time when some of the actual victims and their accusers were being held in the Fleet for closer investigation.
Great Sums were gotten at the Fleet to show them, and Publick Plays were acted thereupon: the Famous Case of the Lancashire Witches
