The aim of this contribution is to analyze the significant change that has characterized football activity, turning it from a conventional sports discipline into a real economic sector. It will also be examined how the interest of important economic players (companies, sponsors, entrepreneurs, etc.) and the consequent high volume of revenues and expenditures in the “football business” have made it essential to implement the corporate management principles in this sports activity. This has also been reflected in the change in the legal and economic nature of many football clubs and in their governance approach.
