The purpose of this paper is to analyze the effect of increasing level of digital platform openness in term of reach and responsiveness on the emergence of new type of risk of all types of actors involved. We consider risks at three levels of a prototypical digital platform ecosystem: the level of interacting actors, the level of actors who design and organize the platform, the level of non-users,that might interact with the network. We develop a number of scenarios to illustrate how a digital network may be exposed to new various risks. Some prominent features of the relative dynamics, that our theoretical framework highlights will be illustrated by an agent-based simulation model. The study seeks to contribute to digital platform networks by focusing on the risks that the digitalization gives rise to (as a direct result of the value potential that it enables) and the inherent managerial challenges that may require a rethinking of the role of eco-system actors and even of non-actors that could be positively or negatively impacted.
