During all sporting activities our bodies interact with the external environment and experience externally applied forces. These forces induce vibrations and oscillations within the tissues of the body. Vibrations are used both in the medical and sports fields. Two varieties of vibration training can be distinguished: a local vibration applied during strength and flexibility exercises (vibratory stimu- lation, vs) and a whole body vibration (wbv) which also can be performed during muscle activity. It is demonstrated that the vibration frequency and duration of the procedure can influence muscle activation, metabolic effects and neuromuscular performance. Therefore the choice of the vibration technique to be applied to the sportsman must take into account these elements.

Abstract
During all sporting activities our bodies interact with the external environment and experience externally applied forces. These forces induce vibrations and oscillations within the tissues of the body. Vibrations are used both in the medical and sports fields. Two varieties of vibration training can be distinguished: a local vibration applied during strength and flexibility exercises (vibratory stimu- lation, vs) and a whole body vibration (wbv) which also can be performed during muscle activity. It is demonstrated that the vibration frequency and duration of the procedure can influence muscle activation, metabolic effects and neuromuscular performance. Therefore the choice of the vibration technique to be applied to the sportsman must take into account these elements.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
