The article want to describe a system of buildings, located in the city of Wuhan in China, with specific homogeneous architectural morphological characteristics, identified with the term "lifen". The Chinese word "lifen" is composed by two characters. The first is Li “里” used to identify something inside that can be associate in the case of urban structure, which is a space inside a boundary. In Wuhan, there are many unique examples of Lifen realized to meet the demands of a Chinese new social class from the end of 19th and early 20th century.
