Abstract

Sport can fully integrate the individual into a different reality from the daily one burdened with many problems, by transferring it on an equality and equity level towards socialization and solidarity. Soccer represents a life and social metaphor. Thanks to it we learn the meaning of playing in a team, feeling part of a group, and then of a community. The ethical values conveyed through the practice of soccer, and through sports in general, such as loyalty, team spirit, respect for rules and for the opponent, offer the possibility to break down the barriers of disability and mistrust by promoting genuine interests in what is alternative to our way of being and living. Soccer as a sport discipline is a strong element of aggregation and connection, able to spread and help people understand a cultural perspective based on respect, integration and ability to recognize and self-recognize as members of the same community.
