Abstract

An update of the search results and the measurement of the properties of the newly observed Higgs-like particle in the decay channel H → ZZ (*) → ℓ+ℓ -ℓℓ+ℓℓ-, where ℓ, ℓℓ= e or μ, using proton-proton (pp) collision data recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is presented. This analysis uses the full 2011 and 2012 pp collision datasets of 4.6 fb -1 and 20.7 fb -1 √ at s = 7TeV and 8TeV, respectively. A clear excess of events over the background is observed at mH = 124.3 GeV with a significance of 6.6 standard deviations, corresponding to a background fluctuation probability of 2.7×10 -11. This paper is focused on the first measurements of the signal strength, mass, spin-parity and couplings. © CERN.
