My essay aims to illustrate a corpus-based enquiry into Emily Brontë’s poetical production, in order to identify lexical and semantic patterns, draw comparisons with contemporary poetry and verify their consonance with traditional Brontë scholarship. In particular, by making use of version 5.0 of the software WordSmith Tools , my analysis tries to answer the following questions: - First, what are the main features of Brontë’s poetical style, beyond any Gondal-non Gondal division? Do they reveal, as noted by several critics, an iterative drive and “impersonal” attitude? - To what extent do Brontë’s imagery and themes reflect contemporary trends in Romantic and Victorian poetry?
