Satellite images are generally used in reference to cartographic representation of Gauss, but in some cases, such as for application concerning marine environment, the adaptation to Mercator Map may be necessary. GIS softwares supply functions to perform these operations, but particular attention by users must be supplied to ensure acceptable results. In this paper techniques to enhance accuracy of reprojection of satellite images from Gauss to Mercator representation are considered. The research is performed on Landsat 7 ETM+ imagery concerning the Gulf of Naples. Two different approaches are identified: the first based on the availability of a nautical chart concerning the same area, the second in absence of it. The accuracy of results is evaluated using Check Points of which coordinates referred to both Gauss and Mercator projections are known.

Abstract
The accuracy of results is evaluated using Check Points of which coordinates referred to both Gauss and Mercator projections are known.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
