Abstract. This study has been carried out in order to understand the behavior of users in choosing the type of trains to use to travel on the Naples - Rome line and vice versa. In particular, we aim to analyze how the recently implemented high speed travel may influence the choices of travelers with respect to the other two lines already in operation. How will passenger choice change in the presence of a new, high speed railway line? ( Nash C., 2002) It should first of all be considered that this is the line with the greatest flow of passenger traffic towards the South of the peninsula. The modeling application are the nested logit and the kernel (mixed) logit models ( McFadden D. 2000), Ben Akiva M. 2004) with variable coefficients that will make it possible to analyse the distribution of demand for rail transport. Then, we will assess the impact of the new high speed line on the Rome - Naples run based on direct elasticity over a period and at a point (Wardman M, 1997). This will make it possible to assess the changes in demand with respect to variation in journey time and willingness to pay more for its reduction.
