The production of 3D models related to free-form objects in the field of photogrammetry is one of the applications requiring characteristics and accuracy of detail on the final product that would require more and more often the combined use of active and passive sensors. The use of photogrammetric techniques allows the solution of some problems that occur with the use of laser scanner and at the same time, thanks to image-matching algorithms, we can obtain dense point clouds with similar accuracies. Obviously, these algorithms can not always guarantee a constant density for the point cloud. In this paper we illustrate the possibilities of use a software that implements a set of image-matching algorithms developed in the field of computer vision for the modeling of free-form objects; such software has the basic characteristics of being free and opensource: PMVS . Moreover, a comparison of the models obtained with PMVS with those obtained through robust software modules present in commercial photogrammetry is produced. This comparison was performed on different datasets of oriented images, so it was possible to determine reliability and accuracy for PMVS.

Abstract
This comparison was performed on different datasets of oriented images, so it was possible to determine reliability and accuracy for PMVS.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
