This chapter first analyzes the financial conglomerates from an economic and regulatory point of view taking into account the alternative models through which a bank can obtain the benefits of bancassurance, that are the universal bank and the banking group model. Then, it describes the characteristics of the so-called lead supervisor and the methodologies to measure the degree of capital adequacy of financial conglomerates. Finally, it indentifies the characteristics of the supplementary supervision.
