Lakes represent a key component of the Earth's ecosystem, playing a significant role in the preservation of water resources, transportation, and climate regulation. The speckle statistical features for water body detection is here exploited using X-band SAR data from the Italian COSMO-SkyMed constellation. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is confirmed by experimental results, and validation is performed through comparison with nearly co-registered optical imagery from the Sentinel-2 mission.
