Sea surface plays a crucial role in influencing both oceanic and atmospheric processes. Today, satellite-based observations of sea surface wind are regularly utilized across a broad spectrum of oceanic, atmospheric, and climate-related applications. In this framework, real-aperture microwave active sensors are extensively used to deliver sea surface wind data to the operational communities working in oceanography and meteorology. In this paper, we investigate the azimuth cut-off sea wind speed retrieval approach by taking benefit of multi-look synthetic aperture radar imagery acquired in the Gulf of Salerno, Italy. The images have been co-located with level-2 Sentinel-1 wind products and with the European Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecast forecasting winds. Preliminary results show that azimuth cut-off is not sensitive to sea states lower that a given threshold, which will be assessed when a larger dataset will be available. Abstract

Further analysis will be provided by the time of the conference.
