Abstract

Oil and its derivatives represent one of the primary energy sources today, making their transport essential for the global economy. Unfortunately, the risk of hydrocarbon spills into the sea is still significant. Our study analyzes the phases characterizing oil spills from oil tankers following collision events. We describe the evolutionary dynamics (tracer dispersion) of the oil slick and its potential environmental consequences in vulnerable regions of the Mediterranean Sea, using as an example the Gulf of Naples.
