This book originates from the intention to present, in a systematic way and with a critical perspective, the issue of tourism sustainability in search of new strategies to promote growth. The growth of the tourism sector, mainly due to the progressive market openness since the 1990s and the reduction of transport costs, has certainly brought great short-term benefits to both advanced and developing countries. However, as with any other productive sector, this expansion threatens to cause controversial effects on the environment and society in the long run. Tourism, unlike other productive sectors, needs quality destinations to be consolidated. The sustainability of tourism is therefore not only linked to the need to preserve life on earth, but above all to the need to enable the preservation and development of the sector itself. Taking this feature into account, tourism, if governed according to the principles of sustainability, can become a sector on which to focus not only to sustain growth while respecting the environment and the communities, but also to strengthen the resilience of destinations in the event of adversities.

Abstract
Taking this feature into account, tourism, if governed according to the principles of sustainability, can become a sector on which to focus not only to sustain growth while respecting the environment and the communities, but also to strengthen the resilience of destinations in the event of adversities.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
