In the period between the notification of the intention to withdraw and the entry into force of the EU-UK Withdrawal Agreement, a large number of disputes arose to challenge, both before national and supranational Courts, the consequences of the the United Kingdom’s withdrawal on the applicants’ legal situation. This paper focuses on the analysis of these disputes that, although very different from each other on substantive grounds, all have in common the same procedural difficulties in gaining access to justice. This analysis allows us to understand what are the legal remedies available for British citizens who want to challenge the loss of their European citizenship and what is the level of judicial protection that EU law is able to offer in such situations.
