Museums are driving innovation in services and processes by embracing information technology for value creation. Innovation helps museums to drive change, thus strengthening audience involvement and user participation, while also enhancing the role of museum professionals as user-centred mediators. Museums are rethinking a community vision and fostering active participation of audiences as co-producers. As value-driven and innovation-led organisations, museums use technology to drive innovation and contribute to sharing authority on cultural heritage content definition and knowledge, strengthening technology, organisation and human resources, and engaging the audience in active participation with regard to managing the information and knowledge sources of the museum. Driving innovation using technology helps to rethink the museum as a knowledge-driven and innovation-oriented community within cultural ecosystems.
