Abstract

The sharing economy, born in the United States of America, covers a great variety of sectors (from sharing houses and car journeys, to domestic services) and is rapidly emerging across Europe. The sharing economy provides new opportunities for citizens and innovative entrepreneurs, provided that developed in a responsible way. In Europe national and local existing rules and obligations are various and fragmented, and the European Commission is looking at providing clarity on applicable rules and policy recommendations to help businesses, citizens and EU member States fully benefit from the new business models and promote the balanced development of the sharing economy. Indeed, The European institutions consider very important to encourage the development of new and innovative services, and the temporary use of assets, while ensuring adequate consumer and social protection.
