Abstract

Oil spills severely pollute seas and coastal environments. Satellite remote sensing and in particular Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), is effective to observe them. The observation effectiveness is strictly related to the modeling capabilities. In this paper a new polarimetric model, based on the coherence matrix, which is able to both observe oil slicks and distinguishing them from biogenic slicks is presented.
