Abstract

Nowadays precise measurements of hulls, propellers and other appendages are an issue still open in naval architecture field. The complex shapes, that are often involved, require dense and accurate measurements. This paper shows the results achieved by applying digital photogrammetry techniques for 3D objects modelling. The whole flowchart, from camera calibration and image acquisition to the application of reverse engineering techniques, was examined on both screw-propeller and hull towing tank models. A critical and detailed analysis of processes involved has been carried out together with the discussion on the benefits of the proposed technique to full scale objects.
