The work evaluates the needs for common skills and knowledge expressed by a sample of enterprises operating within the so-called Sea Economy, i.e. companies that are directly or indirectly tied to the resource "sea-water" whether belonging to the primary, secondary or tertiary sector. The interest towards this topic is linked to the considerable relevance achieved by this cluster at the national level and to the future prospects of increased movement of people and goods resulting from the process of market globalization. To this aim, an exploratory survey has been conducted on forty-four firms engaged in the maritime cluster and based in the Campania Region. The findings suggest that respondents are substantially followers driven by the need to adapt to the changes coming from the environment, rather than first movers aiming to move to the leading edge of the competitive frontier. However, they are well aware of endogenous corporate loopholes and the need to act in this regard, which in many cases they try to do.
