Abstract

The paper aims at presenting a picture of the internationalisa-tion of the Southern Italy and the preferred ways chosen by the enterprises located in such context. In particular, are ana-lysed the SMEs dynamic by considering the ties between opening abroad choices and their prevailing productive spe-cialisation, that’s in virtue of the centrality which such units within the Southern economic system. The checking of the empirical investigations show that, despite a series of recent positive signals and obvious wide breath in the way of acting of the Southern economic operators, the firms confirm either a certain delay in the international projection respect the other industrialised areas, and a high business instability of the presence on the foreign markets. This situation doesn’t seem to be linked to the exiting pattern based on little firms operat-ing into the so-called traditional sectors; but it could better be depended on the lack in the business climate respect on the needs of the local SMEs. These SMEs, in fact, have got more weakness and fragility because lacking of knowledge and in-novations as well as and their survival and performances is more dependent on the external framework.
